Warning...lots of writing, not many pics this time....
Friday was Ryan's last day of school, but his last day didn't go as planned. He woke up with a sore throat and a tummy ache. He tried to go to school, since it was the last day, even though he was in pain. He was at school for about an hour and a half and couldn't take it anymore, so he ended up coming home. Fortunately, his school had an activity day so he felt better leaving, knowing that his kids were taken care of. However, he felt bad that he wasn't able to say good-bye to them.
When he got home, he went directly to bed and laid in a fetal position. He was in lots of pain. He asked if he should go to the doctor. I knew something wasn't right when Ryan WANTED to go to the doctor (that is very unusual). We ended up getting in to see the doctor at 3:15. We were there for an hour, somebody got a little sick and weak when he had to give blood (not surprising). The doctor called with results of his blood tests and sent us directly to the hospital for a catscan and some more tests. WHAT?????? A catscan????? As soon I heard that, I tried to stay strong, but I was SUPER scared and started crying.
We had to quickly find a place for Brooklyn, not knowing how long we were going to be at the hospital. I flew around the house like a mad woman packing things for Brooklyn (jammies, bottles, milk, blankets, toys, diapers, wipes, etc...) and things for our stay at the hospital (I should have brought more). Thank goodness Ben and Jane Ford were just getting home from work. They were SOOOOO generous and offered to watch Brooklyn while we figured this whole thing out.
So, I quickly dropped Ryan off at the emergency room at the hospital, dropped off Brooklyn at the Fords (I was in such a panic, I forgot to give them her nuk and didn't even tell them any directions...I knew she would be in good hands), raced back to the hospital and found Ryan waiting (in so much pain) in the waiting room. The worst part of the night was the 2 hour wait that Ryan had to drink 3 glasses of some liquid to rule out appendicitis. Thank goodness the Brewers were on tv, however Ryan couldn't even enjoy them because he was SO uncomfortable. Finally at 8:00, he was taken away to get his catscan. Results came back 20 minutes later...he definitely had appendicitis!!!!! I was very relieved!!!!! Now we just had to wait for a room and a surgeon. By 10:30pm Ryan was in the operating room. I waited an hour in the half in the waiting room of the hospital. There is not much activity happening in the hospital at that time. Even the security guard was wondering what I was doing there. :) Finally at midnight Dr. Moss found me and said that everything went well. They did the surgery lapiscopically (sp?), which is good because it is less recovering time. I went up to his room and waited for him to come out of recovery. By 12:30 am he was back in his room. I stayed with him for about 15 minutes and then had to go home. I hadn't eaten since noon and I HAD to pump (I kinda forgot that I need to do that).
I went home, ate, pumped, and slept for 4 hours. Saturday morning I woke up bright and early, went to get Brooklyn, brought her home to regroup, and spent some time with her (while Ryan was still in the hospital). Holly came about 8:00 to get Brooklyn. Thank goodness for wonderful family and friends near by. Brooklyn hung out with Jason, Holly and Graham for the day, while I spent the day at the hospital with Ryan. Ryan was released around 5:00pm and we were home by 5:30.
The hardest part of the weekend was leaving Brooklyn, even though I knew she was in good hands, I just felt guilty, yet I knew that I had to be with Ryan alone. The other hard part about the weekend was seeing Ryan in so much pain and unable to do anything. He is NOT a person who likes to sit around, so this week has been hard on him. I haven't let him do much, but I know he will thank me someday.
Brooklyn and Ryan enjoyed hanging out on the deck together. Ryan needed a change of scenery once in awhile.
What a big girl!
Every day he seems to feel a little bit better. He is feeling about 70% today, which is wonderful. He has a doctor's appointment tomorrow with Dr. Moss to check on the healing process. He is hoping to start some side jobs next week. I will only let him do work that is not strenuous...we'll see! Fortunately, Ryan knows that he can't push it. He knows what he can and can't do.
Thanks to everyone for your support, thoughts and prayers!
