Last night we had some thunderstorms that seem to last all night. Supposedly they weren't severe, but I sure thing they were. About an hour after going to bed we were awaken to the sound of heavy rain, thunder, and the constant glow of lightning. Suddenly we heard our smoke alarm go off (a few beeps) and realized that our power had gone out. Typically when the power goes out, it comes back on very quickly. Not this time around. We weren't sure how Brooklyn would do without any fan or sound to dampen out the sound of thunder. Sure enough, a few minutes later she was screaming. We aren't sure if it was because she didn't have a night light, or if is was the sound of thunder, or even a bad dream. I went in to comfort her, but she would NOT lay down. She seems terrified. I rocked her for awhile, and then tried to put her down again...NOPE!!!! So, we brought her into our bed for the first time. She laid on the pillow between us. I was instantly worried about co-sleeping, but knew that I wasn't going to be able to fall asleep anyway. She laid with us for about 40 minutes, and then the storm got worse and the wind picked up. I HATE living in a two story home when there is a storm. All I could think about was getting struck by lightning or the roof blowing off. We heard a big bang, Ryan quickly got up to check what happened. He was sad to find out that our outdoor heater fell over.
I decided to bring Brooklyn down to our main level (since our basement isn't quite finished yet). We stayed there for another 45 minutes until the storm died down a little. Brooklyn remained awake the whole 2 hours, but was very calm, which was nice. As we looked outside, we noticed that we had a big branch that broke off our tree in the back.
Ryan eventually rocked her back to sleep, the storm died down, the electricity came back on, and we got a few hours of sleep. The storm really wasn't that bad, but it was a memorable night for us.
